Practicing Magic – Symbols and Candles

by Ofelia on January 8, 2012

Symbols in magic have tremendous power; they are like keys activating different mind states. Any of these representations, specially those who were used in ancient magic, shamanism, Wicca, Celtic magic, etc., they have to be handled carefully because when we use a symbol, mysterious forces activate, and they escape our human power.

The magic element will be molded by our own thought. This is why it is recommended to the person that uses magic or religious symbols in rituals, spells, exorcisms and incantations, to keep spiritually elevated thoughts. If this is not done, the goals of our magical works could be reverted from their original objective.

Some magic symbols are represented by:

  • Chalice
  • Images
  • Perfumes
  • Bells
  • Earthenware bowls
  • Water
  • Fire
  • Candles
  • Flowers
  • Crosses
  • Incense
  • Magic Sticks
  • Pyramids
  • Earth powder

The most powerful element in magic is candles. They are always related to mystique, esoteric and religious matters. The enlighten life and strengthen good luck.

They are mostly related to what is religious, mystique and esoteric. Despite being a magic element by itself, they are essential in rituals and celebrations to any kind of petition, thank you, spells, magic incantations, etc.

Just the fact of lit them up already comfort us and give a sense of safety in every act that we take to practice. Their light make us feel in harmony with the cosmos.

Here there are some advices to pay attention to when we decide to work with candles:

- Their component should be paraffin or wax (do not ever use animal oil candles). The more processed the candle is, the better will be for the result of our work.

- To perform any ritual, choose moments where you can feel a good disposition, good mood and wellbeing. You should not perform rituals when your body is ill, when you are depressed or when people around you are feeling bad).

- Study and comprehend each ritual, follow it step by step, without changing elements or procedures.

- Lit up the candles with matches.

- Turn off the candles (if the ritual says you should do so) with your fingers or a special device to turn them off. But do not ever blow them off because it will dilute the energy you got in your ritual.

- We can experiment making our own candles, adding them secret ingredients that could strengthen the ritual’s goal.

- When any ritual is done, it is important all the remains from the candles and elements to be wrapped in journal paper until we have the chance to throw them into a river, a lake, the ocean, etc. If we do not have the chance to do it this way, the more appropriate thing to do is to bury them underground or take them outside to be taken with the trash.
